Big Day of Giving

Logo-Icon-Date-2tealorangeDon’t forget Sacramento Country Dance Society at the Big Day of Giving on May 4th! These funds help us to pay for special events for our dance community: the talent at our Anniversary Dance, workshops like the upcoming Intermediate Waltz Workshop on May 13th, family contra dances, and the English country dance Spring Dance Weekend on May 6th and 7th.

To support us, you no longer have to keep track of the date and remember to give on Thursday. Instead you can schedule your gift in advance here, and the charge will be completed on May 4th.

A couple of years ago, we committed to being a 100% giving Board of Directors, so all of us will be making a contribution again this year. Please join us and put your money where your heart is by making a one-time, tax-deductible contribution. It’s fast, it’s easy, and it ensures the future of contra and English country dancing in Sacramento. See you at the dance!

How can you help SCDS?

Organizing dances is a lot of work, and the Sacramento Country Dance Society can always use more help! Volunteering is a great way to form stronger bonds with our community. If you’ve been enjoying our dances, here are some opportunities to give back.

First, you can support SCDS financially – even without giving any money yourself! SCDS uses Amazon Smile. If you sign up with SCDS as your charity through that link, a small part of the amount you spend comes to SCDS every time you shop, at no charge to you. Sign up today, and buy your holiday presents through the smile.amazon.com link.

Second, SCDS simply could not exist without volunteers!  Whether you’d like to work the door at dances, be trained as a sound technician, help with publicity, or guide long-term strategy as a board member, there’s an opportunity waiting for you.  Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, use your current skills, or learn new ones, and it’s lots of fun!

The Echo Summit Dance Camp requires a large number of volunteers, for tasks like greeting and cabin assignment, sweeping the dance floor, moving furniture, assisting the bands and callers, keeping water dispensers full, organizing the first night potluck, and many more. Though everyone is welcome to help, there are a limited number of work scholarships for low-income people who perform a required number of hours of volunteer work in trade for a reduced registration fee.

If you’re interested in volunteering your time, please speak to any of our Board members at dances, or send an email inquiry to sactocds@yahoo.com.  We’d love to have you!

Bark, bark! BigDOG wags its tail!

New BIG Day LogoHere, finally, is an update. The Big Day of Giving website has had problems since this morning, sometimes working and sometimes not, and it is not working at this time. The event has been extended to 3:00PM Wednesday, so if you wish, you may check the website to see if it works.

As a good alternative, you can donate online via our partner JustGive, https://npo.justgive.org/scds, and it will be credited to our BigDOG fundraising. You may bring a check to the next dance, as Paul Larsen suggested, and it will be much appreciated but won’t count towards BigDOG. And you may call Celine at 916-893-8616 and she will take down your credit card information (be patient, she wasn’t expecting to be doing this!).

We received donations early in the day, and at times during the day, totaling $1450 from 19 supporters. To those of you who were lucky or persistent, THANK YOU! Our donation webpage will not likely reflect the correct amount any time during the event, but we are receiving your donations and they are being acknowledged by Celine.

We will make use of your contribution to fund special activities such as family dances, national callers and musicians, and waltz workshops.

Big Day of Giving in 8 days!

The Big Day of Giving is fast approaching. This is an exciting time for our city and for our Sacramento Country Dance Society friends. Just this week we were informed that Golden 1 Credit Union will once again make an extra contribution for every donation made using a Golden 1 credit or debit card. So reach for that plastic if you’re a Golden 1 member!

Mark your calendar for May 3rd. Love our traditions, preserve our heritage, serve our town. See you at the dance!

Big Day of Giving

BigDOG-bannerFriends of Sacramento Country Dance Society:

It’s Big DAY OF GIVING SEASON in Sacramento!

2016 is already off to an exciting start for dancers in Sacramento!  As we continue with our traditional Contra and English Country Dance events, we are also focusing on new traditions that grow our dance community, and help ensure this wonderful tradition is able to thrive in Sacramento.

  • Workshops are being developed to offer training for new callers. We hope to attract local folk and grow our local talent!
  • Families are being invited to specially organized dances. If you weren’t at the Feb. 13th Family Dance, you missed a lot of excitement. Squeals of delight were heard throughout the afternoon.
  • In April we will host special talent at our Anniversary Dance and the English Country May Day celebration weekend. Mark your calendar! You won’t want to miss that!
  • Our newest tradition, as practiced in many Contra communities, is hosting a Community Band night, when our fine local musicians can join in the fun and play for a Contra Dance.

This will mark the third year the Sacramento Country Dance Society has participated in the Give Local Now campaign. Their Big Day of Giving event, which occurs once a year in a single 24 hour period, has raised over $9 million for local organizations.

Because we love our town, because DANCING also LIFTS UP LIVES, mark your calendar for May 3rd, 2016, Big Day of Giving.  Put your money where your heart is and make a one time, tax deductible contribution.  It’s fast, it’s easy, and it ensures the future of Contra and English Country Dancing in Sacramento. Help save an elegant and beautiful tradition.

See you at the dance.

Amazon Smile

Amazon Smile is the process used by Amazon to make their own charitable donations to non-profits. For every purchase made, Amazon makes a company donation, 0.5% of the purchase price. It costs the buyer nothing.

We have a specific link for our organization: http://smile.amazon.com/ch/68-0261960. Your browser will store this organization preference, but to use it you will have to enter smile.amazon. com rather than amazon.com.

You may already be using Amazon Smile for another organization, and we aren’t encouraging you to change, but for those of you not participating, please make SCDS your recipient.
