Registration will open at the end of March for Echo Summit Dance Camp on September 13-15, 2019. Come to Camp Sacramento, high in the Sierra, for a weekend of great contra dancing and music with your friends old and new! Camp Sacramento is two hours east of Sacramento off Highway 50 just west of Echo Summit at an elevation of 6600 feet. Nestled in the tall trees of the Sierra Nevada, Camp Sacramento’s refinished wooden dance floor and rustic small cabins are waiting for you to enjoy. Camp staff even sell espresso drinks in the morning, and beer and ice cream in the afternoons to keep your dance energy going.
Gaye Fifer is an accomplished contra caller from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who has been calling contra dance weekends throughout the United States and Canada for the past 25 years. An active dancer herself, Gaye understands the subtleties of making contra dances satisfying for dancers. Her pleasant style and clear and concise teaching put dancers at ease and set the stage for a great dance experience. She is also an enthusiastic advocate and instructor of contra-style waltz. Gaye is currently president of CDSS and has a passionate interest in organizing to support dance community leaders and organizers.
Caller Sarah VanNorstrand has been calling, organizing and teaching contra, square, and family/community dances since 2006. She has a clear and engaging teaching style and a great repertoire of dances to share. Instantly hooked from her first contra dance as a teen, Sarah’s love of dance and her joy in sharing it is evident and infectious. Above all, her goal as a caller is to make sure the dancers are having as much fun as she is!
